We can do our part to stop HIV stigma by being intentional and thoughtful when choosing our words, and choosing to use supportive—rather than stigmatizing— language when talking about HIV.

I would like to take this time to honor one of our faithful BBB brothers, Javan Reed. Javan had been a loyal member of BBB since the beginning. BBB received word on March 13th of Javan's untimely passing and No further information has been publicly available regarding the cause of death. Please keep his children and family in your prayers...He will truly be missed.
Tragedies like these remind us why we have to enjoy our time with one another and support one another as brothers.

BBB Announces New Leadership and Programming The

BBB Announces New Leadership and Programming

The Black Bear Brotherhood of Detroit (BBB) announces a new co-Executive Director, Terrance “Terry Bear” Allen. A founding member of BBB, Mr. Allen has served as a Member Chair for BBB for the last year. A long-time employee of the Detroit Medical Center and a lifelong Detroiter, Mr. Allen brings years of community and social networking experience to his new leadership role at BBB.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Terry step into this new phase of executive leadership with BBB Detroit and BBB National,” says BBB founder and current Principal/Executive Director L. Michael Gipson. “With my stepping down in May to leave Detroit, we on the Board wanted to make sure we are setting ourselves up for success with a proper succession plan and the right person for the awesome journey ahead. Terry is that man.”

Allen is projected to work in partnership with Gipson during his last months with the organization, until formal elections can be held with BBB membership in May 2020. In the interim, Mr. Allen will preside over a slate of newly scheduled programming, including Halloween at Home on Saturday, October 31st, the return of the monthly BBB Online Potluck on November 28th, the launch of BBB’s Art & Culture (e.g., film, literature, music, etc.) and Geek Culture Connector Clubs (e.g., anime, gaming, comics, etc.), respectively, on December 5th. Allen will also oversee Michael L. William’s recently trained and certified Care Bear Project Team as they get their mental health first-aid, suicide prevention, and good samaritan works started in November as well.
